EC members, we can use this to keep in touch / test out the system.
Just as a test: reply to this and list your favorite KPA memory. If you like, you can also list one thing you'd like to change about the KPA.

Hello
My name is Laura (big surprise...) I once served as KPA Foreign Language Representative, then eventually as President. I was almost Treasurer but not really and now am Secretary. I love the KPA - the people, the atmosphere of the conferences, the journal.
I don't know what my favorite memory is, but a striking one is sitting in that tiny hotel meeting room in Morehead making up for the fact that the University closed due to tornado threats. Really, probably all of my KPA memories involve weather. That and food and friends.

Hmm. It's now lunchtime and I haven't found a picture to use for my profile. A lot of my KPA memories involve weather (and people) too, especially talking with John Shawcross in the hotel at the snowbound Louisville conference. More later, maybe. Candy

Hi. It's me, Shayne, the one who just emailed you all about parking. I always enjoyed moderating and attending the grad student panels; they are very earnest.

Hi folks! Craig Steffen here, webmaster. I haven't done much in that regard over the last year. Turns out adopting a kid soaks up a lot of your time! My memories of KPA tend to have a lot of weather-related items in it as well. I suppose the strongest was digging our car out of snow and defrosting it on the way to KPA 2015, due to very snowy weather. (Here's a blog post about it. I'm mostly posting it as a test to see what the forum will do with it. craigsteffen.net/blog/car/2015/04/2015_04_06_07_23_32_A.php .) See you all next Saturday. Craig

I realize most people won't have time to read this before tomorrow's meeting, but I wanted to share this post with you all: beforeshakespeare.com/2017/09/08/relearning-how-to-learn-potential-ideas-for-scholarly-debate/It's a retrospective blog post from one of the organizers of the "Before Shakespeare" conference about their event, but much of it has to do with how conferences can be re-imagined. Some of his ideas and observations would be good for us to mull over, even if it's to decide that they don't apply or we don't know how to apply them. For instance, he talks about conferences being too packed full of papers for much socializing to happen. As some people on Twitter are pointing out to him, that's because many of us have a reimbursement model that only works if we present, so there must be tons of sessions for anyone to be able to afford to attend. Anyway, food for thought if you have a chance to skim over it! Associate Professor of English Lincoln Memorial University KPA Executive Director

Hi! I'd have to agree with the weather-related memories. Also, my first KPA, probably in 1983 was at Centre College. A music professor from U.K. came and totally tore apart my paper (on song translation). I'm not good at responding on my feet - and especially not at my very first conference! He eventually contacted me and told me how much he enjoyed my paper. How odd that all was! Nancy
